The wait is finally over! Microsoft finally released the production version of the Remote Server Administration Tool for Windows 10 on 8/19/2015. The release of this tools comes in conjunction with Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview 3 if you’re interested in checking it out. A few caveats, RSAT will only work on full versions of Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise and there isn’t currently any support for Windows RT. If you had installed any previous release of the RSAT tool you will need to uninstall it first before installing this latest version. You may also notice that Microsoft left out most of the IP address management tools. DHCP management is not included, and MS has stated that admins can use Powershell instead to administer DHCP servers. Hopefully we’ll see this re-added in the near future.
I had a slight issue getting this to work initially as I had previously tried installing the Windows 10 RSAT Preview which was non-functional in the production release of Windows 10 Enterprise. When I looked for the RSAT preview to uninstall it didn’t appear for me under the installed updates. Thinking I was ok to proceed, I installed the new version of RSAT but noticed that it wasn’t functioning, and the Remote Server Administration Tool features didn’t appear under the Turn Windows features on or off menu. I found KB 2693643 under the Installed Updates, uninstalled it, and re-installed the RSAT tools again. This time the features showed up and the tools were all functional under the MMC console.
You can find the RSAT download on the Microsoft site here…
